Hey all,
For those of you looking to package CS3 for Casper, here's the officially supported solution at this time...
1.) Start off on a clean machine with a clean OS and a copy of Composer
2.) Launch Composer, select 'New Files', and click 'Take Snapshot'
3.) Run all of your CS3 installers (Design Premium, Web Standard, Etc) and be sure to install any and all parts of the suite that you need to deploy.
4.) Run the Adobe Updater tool found in the 'Utilities' folder and be sure to install any available updates
5.) Launch each individual application and enter the serial number for the appropriate suite and configure any desired preferences
6.) Go back into Composer, name the package something like 'AdobeCS3Required', and click 'Build Package'
7.) After the package has been built, you have two options from here:
-If deploying only certain applications to certain departments, you will want to edit the package and remove each application that you wish to deploy separately. From there, using Composer's Prebuilt function, you can create individual packages for each of the different .app bundles. When deploying any part of CS3, you will need the 'AdobeCS3Required.dmg' as well as the application package(s).
-If deploying all parts of the suite to everyone, you can distribute the entire suite as one large package.
Sounds a bit complex, but we have had success with this scenario in the labs here at JAMF. As a reminder when deploying the CS3 package, utilizing the 'cache packages' option in Policies or Casper Remote can help prevent network overloads. We are working to provide an easier and more efficient method to deploy CS3 in the coming months and we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, if you have questions on CS3 deployments, or if you have specific questions about the process mentioned above, feel free to give JAMF Support a call at 612-216-1296 or send an email to support at jamfsoftware.com

Siddhartha,
Do you have a few more details like the versions of CS3 suite you plan to package, like Design Premium or Web Standard, or individual "point products" like just Illustrator, Dreamweaver, or Photoshop?
I am in the process of making packs for Design Premium and Web Standard. I know that JAMF has been in contact with Adobe regarding how best to deal with the software...it's not cool by any means.
Basically what we plan to do is install both the Design Premium and Web Standard suites on a single machine, fire off each application at least once, license them appropriately, and then take the single large pack (which is really really big) and break out individual APP pieces. So you'll have one very large Adobe required package (as we call it) that you have to install if you want any of the applications/suites.
That's the suites. If you want to do individual point products you either have to package all of those together at once and break them out similarly to the suite APPs, or create individual packages for each one. If I remember correctly you CAN NOT mix point product packages because of how the installer updates the application database. If you install one application and want another you basically have to install by hand to make it update the database correctly instead of overwriting it.
I guess I wouldn't quote me on all of that, but that's what I can recall based on previous conversations and what I'm working on. If I get my large pack working I'll be sure to post tomorrow.
Hope that sheds some light. Bottom line...Adobe didn't think much about it...
