Hello,
I would strongly urge you to consider doing fresh installs for a major OS
upgrade. Its a good standard practice as you probably don¹t want to bring
your Tiger baggage to the Leopard party.
If you¹re set on doing upgrades, you could use Netboot/Netinstall to perform
the upgrades.
If you are ok with wiping the system, here¹s how I would approach it using
Casper.
1. Add a script to your JSS that deletes everything on the target boot drive
except /Users. (You may also want to rename all users¹ Library folders to
Library.tiger to avoid potential conflicts. By renaming rather than
deleting, you or your clients can copy necessary items back into their new
library folders.)
2. Create autorun data for your target machine(s) containing your Leopard
configuration and the above script as a ³before² item. DO NOT check the box
to erase the target drive.
3. Boot target machines from an external, internal or netboot
restore/utility partition (not the target drive), log in as root and run
Casper.
You can use Casper¹s built in AD binding feature to bind to Active
Directory. I use a dscl script to bind to Open Directory, and a similar
script can be used for other directory services.
I hope this helps.
