[Casper] forum?

Well its not necessarily related to just Casper, this list is great, for
two reasons, 1 the members are knowledgeable and 2 if you need a
question answered this is the place to come.

But if you dont need to ask a particular question but would rather view
articles and scripts then a "forum" which is probably the wrong word,
maybe more like a resource tool kit site, might be the place to go.

For example, we all have heard about dummy scripts and custom triggers,
and all have our own way of using them, i am not about to fill the list
with my scripts and uses, but they may be of use to others,

For example, Steve Wood would like to know about my post image
procedures using chained policies, its not something anyone else needs
to know about as it just my set of procedures and each person has their
own, but by putting them up on a site other ppl can browser and gather
knowledge from the way other ppl do things.

Also if each person put their area of expertise, then someone can email
that person about a particular subject, for example i do a lot of final
cut and logic installs so could answer questions on that, but i have
limited knowledge on Adobe.

I have my own server which we can host on if others are interested, im
only suggestion so it can be of use to us,

I like the idea, but overall I’m going to have to say I don’t
necessarily think it will work well. I’d like to be proven wrong.

I like the fact that the way the list comes to me and makes me take
notice when I get an email. I help run a list serve and website for
another organization and we eliminated the web forum because there was
no traffic to it. Running multiple tools can sometimes work against each
other. For JAMF it’s one more thing they have to manage and oversee.
Unless you are subscribed to each section to receive a notification of
all new posts when someone posts something new you won’t know it until
you actually force yourself to go to the site. Normally people will only
go to the site when they have a problem.

It is a bit of a pain to try and look through old messages on the list
for scripts or content, but if you can’t find it I’d be lazy and ask the
list again. =)

Like I said, I like the idea and I understand it’s appeal, but in
practice I haven’t found having both to work well.

Besides, I’m not sure how often Miles will be able to help us out now
with his new gig. Right Miles?!

Sounds like a fantastic idea. I'd love a place I could go search for
things.. especially since my weakness is scripts.

Is anyone interested in a web knowledge base / forum / repository, or
what ever you wanna call it for us?

This list is great for communication and support for the Casper
community and im not suggesting we change it or stop using it, but would
anyone be interested in a website where we can post scripts, best
practice documents and be a general store of knowledge.

Personally i think it would be great to have a site where we can place
scripts we use and procedures we use so that others can benefit from
them and visa versa. We have a great deal of knowledge in this group
where users have distinct areas or expertise, some of us have worked on
windows installs, some on printing issues, some on Adobe products, some
on dump packages and custom triggers etc.

We could build up an archive of useful tips and h
ints that anyone of in
the group can dip into at anytime.

You guys may have some great tips and hints and procedures that wont get
on this list because no one asks the question but may be of use to us
all.

We could also gather a list of users and what our areas or expertise
are, where we work and what we.

what do you guys think?

Regards
