[Casper] Admin Printer

Hi,

Although I adjust the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file I'm still not satisfied with this solution. When the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update was released I noticed the following:

Non-admin user accounts can now be allowed to add and remove printers by enabling Parental Controls and selecting "Can administer printers".
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3397

Maybe someone found out how to adjust this for managed users by editing a Preference file?

Kind Regards,

Martin van Diemen

But if it's a place like us where we have over 2000 printers, and they change every month, it is impossible to manage, so we allow all users to setup printers.

That's what we decided to start implementing. As Cisco has basically stopped supporting AppleTalk, Self Service basically becomes a replacement for AppleTalk browsing to end users looking for printers. Just have to manage properly scoping them.

Why not add the printers in casper admin and then make a self service policy that users can install them self?

[Casper] Allow Non-Admin Users to Add Printers in Leopard

There was a fairly lengthy discussion on how to do this by editing the cupsd.conf file to allow non-admins to add printers. I'd post the relevant pieces, but it is better to read the entire article.

I'm working on a base image and I figured out the CUPS for the pause printing etc. But how do I unlock the preference pane so anyone can add a printer? I changed permissions on the preference pane file and that didn't work.
