[Composer] Composer Digest, Vol 6, Issue 4

Something seems odd with not being able to capture Premium in the
same manner as standard.. At least we could never mix installs of
CS3's licensed software.. See, our install of Design Standard alone
only weighs in at 1.26Gb packaged. Of course the problem with using
composer with the snapshot new and modified files.. (even though it
is the strength of the product) it makes it difficult to separate
installs. i.e. I create design standard on a clean install of Mac OS
X (never having had CS3 on it before) and the license files are ok.
Add onto the license with, say, web standard and the license
subsystem breaks- unless I make the first image of design standard
then immediately append the second I can never add a package created
by composer again to anything CS3. I CAN manually install from Adobe
DVDs though.

If I try it all in reverse the same happens. I would need to create
an install/package of EVERYTHING then when it comes time to confirm
the contents of the package I leave the entire suite's installed
licenses and remove what I don't want everyone to have. I can then
simply package the application folders themselves of the other items
without any licenses at all and drop them where I want them. Problem
is that Adobe CS3's license subsystem together with whatever you find
added into Application Support is beefy by itself- the hidden files
themselves are also easily upset by tinkering or mishandling - which
in turn leads to breakage of the install.. so once its down it is
recommended you leave them alone.

Indeed CS3 has posed a challenge and Adobe has been surprisingly
stubborn in allow their bigger customers (like our operations) to get
ANY OUNCE of relief from the impossible pseudo-manual install they
call an easy deployment solution.
