From tlarki at kckps.org Tue Mar 4 12:19:32 2008 From: tlarki at kckps.org (Thomas Larkin) Date: Tue, 04 Mar 2008 14:19:32 -0600 Subject: [Composer] iLife 08 Diffs Message-ID: what do you mean by diff files? Different? I built the iLife 08 package like this 1) Clean machine, imaged and ready to go 2) Take snap shot w/ composer 3) install iLife 08, full install 4) Create package with composer 5) Index package into several different categories a) ilife required, which was everything that was put outside of /Applications, like /System for example b) Then I created a group for each iLife application like iWeb, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovieHD, etc. that way when deploying iLife via casper I had the choice to install individual apps if need be. So every install requires the iLife-required package and then whatever app I wanted on top of that. If that is what you meant. From ERNSTCS at uwec.edu Tue Mar 4 18:12:33 2008 From: ERNSTCS at uwec.edu (Ernst, Craig S.) Date: Tue, 4 Mar 2008 20:12:33 -0600 Subject: [Composer] iLife 08 Diffs In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Tom, What he means is that Composer will create an index of the files in a package to be reused later so you just install the software and go. For Example in Composer for Enterprise if you go to the Prebuilt tab and then hit the open button you would see a bunch of already defined packages that are known to work. These are diff files that composer uses to build the packages. When you build your own package in Composer you can have it create a DIFF file for use in the future or to submit to JAMF to package with their software later in an update. This option is enabled by default in the Composer preferences under the packaging tab (pages 155-156 in the 5.1 manual). They are stored in /Library/Application Support/JAMF/Diffs. Hope that helps what was asked for. I don't have a separate Diff though, sorry Miles...I only have one large pack for iLife08.
