[Composer] Question about using packages to install updates

I am curious to find out if anyone knows how the package install system works.

In particular, I am making a package of Adobe CS3 updates that I want to send out using ARD. If a user happens to have already installed updates on their computer, what happens to the package contents I am sending?

Will the package I am sending overwrite the current files? Or will it detect that a file is already there and avoid installing it?
