Message-ID: Hi there- have been building some packages recently - and while things are working well i ran into one situation where im not sure what to do. For some of the software packages the serialization and initial settings are stored within the users plist files. is there any way when creating the image to store some files to the currently logged in user instead of an absolute path? i looked trough all the docs etc and couldnt find anything specific to this. any ideas would be greatly appreciated! thanks. -steve. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi Steve, When I am building a package that requires items to be placed in a users profile (usually plist files that configure something like auto-update), I will have the installer place the items into the default user template. (/System/Library/User Template/English.lproj). This way whenever a new user logs in the items are imported into their user directory. This works well when installing applications as part of a complete system reimage, but installing the package to a system that is already being used means that everyone who has already logged into the computer (and has a user profile) won't have the items as part of their profile. You would need to write some scripts to deploy into the current user directories on the computer. I often use Marc's methods for deploying .plist files to the User Template for lab computers that constantly clear the user directory folders at restart. They get the updated preferences the next time the computer restarts and the user logs in. -- Ted August Salve Regina University On Apr 15, 2009, at 4:18 PM, Pituley, Marc wrote: > Hi Steve, > > When I am building a package that requires items to be placed in a > users profile (usually plist files that configure something like > auto-update), I will have the installer place the items into the > default user template. I like the program and it's ease. However, I have had the need to create some pkg's of apps that are still used in our school district and have been running into some challenges. I was wondering if anyone might have any thoughts or ideas. I have used all three snapshot methods for building the pkg. I have attempted them on 10.4 and 10.5 PPC and intel machines with the same results. Kidspiration will not launch. ATRT3 files show up as Unix executables and will not launch. I know I am missing something but not sure. Verified all permissions and made proper adjustments and still does not change the outcome of the pkg's. Any thoughts or ideas would be very helpful at this time. Thanks in advance. -- John Scurlock Technology Support Specialist Computing and Information Services __________________________ Eugene School Dist 4J 200 N.
